China's Siweite Boosts Humanoid Robot Performance with New Integrated Joint

Hubei Siweite Transmission, a Chinese robotics component specialist, has secured over RMB 100 million yuan (approx. US$13.8 million) in domestic and international orders for its new generation of robotic joints, which are designed to significantly enhance the performance of humanoid robots.

The company's key innovation is an "integrated joint" that combines a high-precision RV reducer, also known as a cycloidal drive, with a motor into a single module. RV reducers are critical components that function as the core of a robot's joints, enabling fluid movement and precise force control. This component field has historically been dominated by foreign manufacturers.

According to Siweite, its integrated solution can increase a robot's strength by three to five times while reducing the joint's volume by 20% and its weight by 30%. This allows for more streamlined and agile humanoid robot designs. The pre-integrated nature of the product also simplifies the manufacturing process for robot developers, saving them from the complex task of sourcing and calibrating separate motors and reducers.

A state-recognized "little giant" enterprise, Siweite is currently supplying its products to nearly ten major humanoid robot manufacturers in China. The company's three production lines are operating at full capacity, with an annual output of 50,000 integrated joints. Looking ahead, Siweite aims to quadruple its output, targeting an annual production capacity of 200,000 units by 2026.

The innovation addresses a growing demand in the rapidly expanding humanoid robot sector. According to company chairman Yu Yunqing, these high-performance joints can account for nearly half of a humanoid robot's total cost. Siweite’s base in Wuhan's Optics Valley is part of a growing local ecosystem of over 60 robotics companies, building a comprehensive domestic supply chain for the industry.
