Honor Surges 42% in European Smartphone Market as Chinese Brand Breaks into Top Four
Honor emerged as the fastest-growing Chinese smartphone brand in Europe during the second quarter of 2025, with shipments surging 42% year-on-year to secure fourth place in the regional market rankings, according to Counterpoint Research.
The performance positioned Honor among the top four vendors in Europe, marking a significant milestone for the brand's international expansion efforts. The company captured 4% market share, up one percentage point from the same period last year.
European smartphone shipments recovered in the second quarter after a sluggish start to the year, with overall market volumes growing 4% year-on-year as consumer demand stabilized across the region.
The growth momentum reflects intensifying competition among smartphone manufacturers in one of the world's key markets, with Chinese brands increasingly challenging established players through aggressive expansion strategies.
Market Leaders Maintain Positions Despite Pressure
Samsung retained its leadership position in the European market despite facing headwinds, with shipments growing a modest 2% year-on-year while market share declined by one percentage point. The South Korean giant continues to dominate the region but faces mounting pressure from competitors across multiple price segments.
Apple strengthened its position with 7% year-on-year growth in shipments, driven by strong performance of the iPhone 16e. The company's market share reached 25%, gaining one percentage point compared to the second quarter of 2024, demonstrating resilience in the premium segment.
Chinese Brands Drive Market Dynamics
Xiaomi Corp posted solid gains with 11% year-on-year shipment growth, boosted by strong sales of its REDMI Note14 series. The company's market share increased to 19%, up one percentage point from the previous year, consolidating its position as a major player in the mid-range segment.
The performance contrasted sharply with Realme Mobile Telecommunications, which experienced a 15% decline in shipments year-on-year. Despite the drop, Realme maintained its 4% market share, unchanged from the second quarter of 2024.
Recovery Signals Stabilizing Demand
The second-quarter recovery in European smartphone shipments follows a challenging first quarter, indicating that consumer purchasing patterns may be stabilizing after a period of market uncertainty. The 4% year-on-year growth suggests renewed confidence among European consumers, providing opportunities for brands to expand their presence in the competitive landscape.
