The announcement comes as Xpeng accelerates its pivot away from a pure automaker identity, framing 2026 as a "watershed year" in which technological ambition must translate into commercial scale.
The stakes are high. He set an overseas sales target of 90,000 vehicles for 2026, doubling last year's tally, and outlined a longer-term goal of one million annual overseas sales by 2030 — a volume the company expects to contribute more than 70% of total profits. Three Physical AI Products Targeted for Mass Production in 2026
The centerpiece of He's letter is a commitment to bring three frontier AI hardware products to market within the year — a goal he described as making Xpeng "the world's first company to mass-produce robots, flying cars, and robotaxis in the same year."
The company's IRON humanoid robot is scheduled to begin mass production by the end of 2026. Xpeng is positioning IRON as the world's first high-volume production humanoid robot, with initial deployments targeting guided tour and retail navigation scenarios. The company also plans to open a software development kit to global developers, a move that could help build an ecosystem around the platform.
The company's split-design flying car, marketed under the name "Land Carrier", has already rolled off a trial production line and is expected to achieve scaled production and delivery within the year. Meanwhile, Xpeng's Robotaxi service will launch pilot operations this year using a dedicated ride-hailing vehicle model. The company projects the business will enter an early rapid-growth phase between 2027 and 2028, with corresponding gains in revenue and market valuation.
On the software side, Xpeng's second-generation Vision Language Action (VLA) model is set for release this quarter, with multiple over-the-air updates planned throughout the year. Volkswagen AG has been named as the launch customer for the new VLA model — a partnership that underscores the commercial validation Xpeng is seeking for its autonomous driving technology.
Vehicle Lineup Expansion Anchors Near-Term Revenue Strategy
While the physical AI narrative dominates the strategic framing, Xpeng's near-term revenue outlook remains grounded in conventional vehicle sales. He described 2026 as an unprecedented "product year," with the company planning to launch multiple new models across core market segments.
Three extended-range electric vehicle (EREV) models are scheduled for release in the first quarter alone, targeting the mainstream market where range anxiety remains a key purchase barrier. To support the expanded agenda, He announced plans to increase Xpeng's global headcount by 8,000 employees in 2026, with approximately 5,000 of those positions reserved for campus recruitment. The hiring plan is accompanied by a cultural directive: every employee, regardless of function, is expected to develop working proficiency in AI tools, with He framing AI agents as a universal "capability extension" for the workforce.
The emphasis on internal talent cultivation is deliberate. He acknowledged a recurring failure mode in Chinese automakers' international expansion — that companies have stumbled not on product quality but on organizational readiness, with team-building and capability gaps undermining brand reputation in new markets. Xpeng, he said, intends to build a robust global supply and production infrastructure spanning supply fulfillment, scaled manufacturing, logistics, and investment management.
The quality dimension also featured prominently. He called for simultaneous improvement in both the floor and ceiling of product quality — encompassing design, manufacturing precision, technology, and customer service touchpoints — signaling that past commercial successes were achieved despite quality inconsistencies the company can no longer afford.
