DJI Launches Mini 5 Pro Drone With 1-Inch Sensor in Sub-250g Package
DJI Technology unveiled its Mini 5 Pro drone, marking the first time the Chinese manufacturer has integrated a 1-inch camera sensor into its sub-250 gram consumer drone category. The device combines enhanced imaging capabilities with regulatory advantages for recreational users while maintaining the compact form factor that has defined the Mini series.
The new model addresses key limitations of previous generations by incorporating LiDAR sensors for improved obstacle avoidance in low-light conditions and extending maximum flight time to 52 minutes with optional battery upgrades. The drone is now available on Amazon and other platforms starting at RMB 4,788 yuan ($673).
The launch positions DJI to maintain its dominance in the consumer drone market as competitors increase pressure on pricing and feature sets. The sub-250g weight classification remains crucial for recreational users in many jurisdictions, as it typically exempts operators from stricter registration and operational requirements.

Enhanced Imaging System Targets Content Creators
The Mini 5 Pro features a 50-megapixel 1-inch CMOS sensor, representing a 68% increase in sensor area compared to the Mini 4 Pro's 1/1.3-inch sensor. This upgrade enables 14-stop dynamic range capture and supports 4K 60fps HDR video recording, along with 4K 120fps slow-motion capabilities.
The drone introduces a 48mm digital zoom mode and expands ISO performance to 12,800 for H.265 10-bit video recording, with D-Log M and HLG color profiles available up to ISO 3,200. Internal storage has increased to 42GB, while Wi-Fi transfer speeds reach 100MB per second, more than triple the Mini 4 Pro's 30MB per second rate.

Standard flight time reaches 36 minutes with the included 2,788mAh battery, extending to 52 minutes with the optional 4,680mAh Plus battery. However, the larger battery pushes total weight above 250 grams, subjecting operators to additional regulatory requirements in most markets.
The drone maintains precise weight control at 249.9 grams in takeoff configuration with the standard battery. Operating altitude varies between 4,500 meters and 6,000 meters depending on battery selection, while maximum range extends up to 32 kilometers with the Plus battery configuration.

The integration of forward-facing LiDAR sensors represents the most significant safety upgrade, enabling obstacle detection in low-light environments where traditional optical sensors struggle. The system supports night operations in urban environments and provides path memory functionality when GPS signals are unavailable.
The gimbal system now offers 225-degree rotation capability while retaining true vertical shooting modes. Operating temperature range spans from -10°C to 40°C, with the camera system featuring an f/1.8 aperture and 24mm equivalent focal length with 0.5-meter minimum focus distance.
