DJI Rumored to Announce First Full-Frame Mirrorless Camera on September 15

A recent report has revealed that Chinese drone manufacturer DJI Technology may be preparing to enter the professional camera market with its first dedicated mirrorless camera system.

According to a report published by Mirrorless Rumors and corroborated by various online sources, DJI is expected to announce a full-frame mirrorless camera on September 15. The speculation has been fueled by posts from DJI Rumors, including a blurred image allegedly showing the camera body, with claims that an official teaser is imminent.

The rumored specifications suggest a full-frame sensor, potentially similar to the one used in DJI's Ronin 4D cinema camera or a semi-stacked sensor comparable to Panasonic's S1II. The camera is expected to feature L-Mount compatibility, allowing users to access lenses from Leica, Panasonic, and Sigma. Design-wise, the camera reportedly resembles Sony's FX3 with a boxy, compact form factor and an electronic viewfinder positioned in the corner.

Industry observers note that DJI's potential entry into the mirrorless camera market leverages the company's existing expertise in stabilization technology, image transmission, and video capabilities. The integration of Hasselblad's color science and user interface, stemming from DJI's majority ownership of the Swedish camera manufacturer since 2017, could provide additional competitive advantages.

This isn't the first time DJI camera rumors have circulated. Previous speculation included a medium-format camera based on Hasselblad X1D technology and a 2023 rumor about a Huawei-DJI collaboration on an interchangeable lens system, neither of which materialized.

If confirmed, DJI's entry would mark a significant challenge to established camera manufacturers Sony, Canon, and Nikon, particularly in the hybrid photo-video segment where DJI's drone and gimbal technology could offer unique advantages. The move could also strengthen the L-Mount alliance and accelerate innovation in computational photography and AI-driven features across the industry.
