Goldman Initiates Insta360 at Buy, Sees 39% Upside on Global Camera Market Dominance

Goldman Sachs has initiated coverage on Insta360 (688775.SS) with a Buy rating and a 12-month price target of RMB 311, implying 39% upside from the current price of RMB 223.37. The investment bank identifies Shenzhen Arashi Vision as a key beneficiary of surging global demand for action and 360-degree cameras, projecting the company's revenue to grow at a blistering 53% CAGR through 2030.

Premium Positioning in Expanding Market

Goldman's analysts Allen Chang, Verena Jeng, and Ting Song argue that despite market concerns over pricing competition, Insta360 operates in a different league—serving global customers with premium-priced, innovative products rather than competing in commodity segments. The firm expects the global action and 360 camera market to explode at a 28% CAGR from 2025 to 2030, reaching US$27 billion (approximately RMB 195 billion), with Insta360's market share doubling from 17% in 2025 to 35% by decade's end.

"Insta360's products are easy to use, which unlocks further use cases and attracts more users," the Goldman team writes, highlighting the company's user-friendly design features including detachable cameras, intuitive controls, and seamless accessory integration. This accessibility, combined with proprietary camera algorithms that enhance image quality, creates a formidable competitive moat.

Diversification Beyond Core Business

The investment bank is particularly bullish on Insta360's expansion beyond its 360 camera roots. Action cameras and drone cameras are expected to comprise 65% of revenue by 2030, up from 47% in 2025. The company's December 2025 launch of the Antigravity A1 drone—equipped with a 360 camera and priced at US$1,143—shipped over 30,000 units globally in its first month, signaling strong market reception.

Goldman projects drone revenue to grow at an 83% CAGR through 2030, reaching RMB 5 billion, with gross margins improving dramatically from just 5% in 2025 to 45% in 2030 as production scales. The accessories business, which Goldman views as a high-margin growth driver, should see its revenue contribution rise from 13% to 20% of total sales over the same period.

Technology Advantages and Ecosystem

Insta360's in-house developed algorithms represent a significant technological edge. The company's Flowstate image stabilization minimizes camera shake during high-speed activities like biking and diving, while its 5nm AI chip automatically extracts video highlights and generates summaries with transition effects and music. These features cater to both amateur and professional users, expanding the addressable market.

The rich accessory ecosystem—from ski bundles with chest straps and invisible selfie sticks to the flash print bundle that transforms the Ace Pro 2 into an instant camera—expands use cases and drives attachment rates. Goldman expects this strategy to support both shipment growth and margin expansion.

Financial Trajectory and Valuation

Goldman forecasts Insta360's revenue to reach RMB 79.7 billion by 2030, up from RMB 9.6 billion in 2025. However, the bank expects gross margins to compress from 48% to 37% over this period due to intensifying competition, though this should be partially offset by operating leverage as the expense ratio improves from 38% to 24%.

Net income is projected to grow at a 56% CAGR through 2030, closely tracking revenue growth. Goldman's estimates sit 9% and 16% above Bloomberg consensus for 2026-27, reflecting greater optimism about shipment momentum driven by expanding internet penetration, growing social media usage, and rising consumer interest in sports, travel, and content creation.

The bank's RMB 311 target price is derived from a 20x 2030 P/E multiple, discounted back to 2027 at a 13.5% cost of equity. This implies a 2027 P/E of 41x and a 2027 price-to-sales ratio of 3.8x—a significant premium to peers like GoPro (0.3x) and Zepp (0.6x), but below Apple (7.3x) and EHang (8.9x).

Risks to the Thesis

Goldman acknowledges several downside risks. Fiercer-than-expected pricing competition could pressure profitability. Slower action and 360 camera shipment growth—which accounts for approximately 85% of 2025 revenue—would materially impact the bull case. Additionally, a lower-than-expected accessory attachment rate would hurt both revenue and margins, given accessories carry higher gross margins than camera hardware.

The bank assigns Insta360 an M&A rank of 3, indicating a low probability (0-15%) of acquisition, primarily due to concentrated share ownership with the founder controlling over 25% of shares.

Despite these risks, Goldman views the current valuation as attractive, with the stock trading at 29x 2027 P/E versus the target-implied 41x multiple. For investors seeking exposure to the convergence of social media, content creation, and consumer electronics, Insta360 represents a compelling growth story in an expanding global market.
