Huawei-Backed Seres Unveils Sportier Aito M6 SUV to Challenge Xiaomi's YU7

Seres Group, backed by Huawei Technologies Co.'s Hongmeng Smart Mobility Alliance, officially released design images of its Aito M6 SUV, positioning the vehicle as a sportier alternative to its existing lineup and setting up a direct competition with Xiaomi's YU7 model.

The M6 features a bright blue promotional color scheme, signaling a younger target demographic compared to the brand's 7, 8, and 9 series vehicles. The design appears slimmer than the M7, emphasizing an athletic stance while retaining the brand's signature pebble-shaped headlights, though with sharper contours and reduced lamp surface area.

The front fascia incorporates horizontal LED daytime running lights in a two-tier configuration, with an upper star-diamond light array and lower main headlamp cluster. Notably, the M6 eliminates the through-type light strip and chrome trim found on previous models, while maintaining the family's blade-style side air intakes with glossy black accents to enhance the sporty aesthetic.

The vehicle's profile follows Hongmeng Smart Mobility's rounded design language but features a flatter roofline than the M5 to maximize rear headroom. A more aggressive D-pillar angle and straight rear shoulder line contribute to a younger appearance. The M6 comes equipped with 21-inch glossy black wheels, red brake calipers, and 265/45 R21 tires, emphasizing driving dynamics and handling performance.

At the rear, the M6 breaks from convention with separate taillights instead of a through-type design, featuring the same star-diamond elements as the front lamps. The integrated look is maintained through an illuminated floating Aito badge and black trim panel surrounded by chrome accents.

The vehicle's advanced driver-assistance system matches the M7's configuration with front and rear lidar sensors. Two sensor groups beneath the rear spoiler likely house high-definition cameras for electronic side mirrors and supplementary blind-spot lidar. The front lidar may have been upgraded to Huawei's latest 500-line system, though this remains unconfirmed.

The M6's design strikes a balance between the M5 and M7, combining family practicality with sporty appeal. The retention of advanced driver-assistance hardware despite the lower market positioning suggests the company is not compromising on features to achieve competitive pricing.

The M6 is expected to start around 270,000 yuan (US$37,200), reaching up to 300,000 yuan (US$41,300), placing it in the premium segment of mid-size SUVs alongside models such as BMW's iX3, Mercedes-Benz's GLC electric, and Audi's Q5L.
