Huawei's Yu Chengdong Sets Ambitious Target: 100 Million More AITO Vehicles in Two Years
Huawei executive Yu Chengdong announced plans to sell an additional 1 million AITO vehicles over the next two years, doubling the brand's cumulative sales to 2 million units, a target that would require significant production capacity expansion and product lineup diversification.
Speaking at the AITO M9 Starlight Night event on February 9, Yu set the aggressive goal following the brand's milestone of reaching its first 1 million vehicles sold. The target translates to approximately 41,700 units per month, a substantial increase from current delivery rates.
The AITO brand, launched in December 2021, achieved its first million sales in 46 months and eight days, marking the fastest pace for a premium Chinese new energy vehicle brand to reach that threshold. On January 13, 2026, the brand's 1 millionth vehicle rolled off the production line.
AITO's annual deliveries show accelerating momentum: 76,200 units in 2022, 94,400 in 2023, 386,300 in 2024, and 422,900 in 2025. The M7 series leads with over 420,000 cumulative deliveries, while the M9 has held the top position in China's luxury SUV segment priced above 500,000 yuan ($68,900) for 21 consecutive months. The M8, launched 131 days ago, has surpassed 150,000 deliveries after breaking through 80,000 units initially.
To meet the two-year target, AITO is preparing to launch the M6, a mid-to-large five-seat SUV positioned in the 250,000-300,000 yuan (US$34,400-41,300) price range. The model will complete AITO's "56789" product matrix, joining the M5, M7, M8, and M9 to cover the 150,000-500,000 yuan (US$20,700-68,900) market segment.
The M6 represents a strategic move to expand AITO's customer base by targeting family users at a more accessible price point. Its market performance will be critical to achieving Yu's ambitious sales objective, as the brand seeks to maintain its growth trajectory in China's increasingly competitive premium electric vehicle market.
