JD.com's First Self-Branded Vehicle Rolls Off Production Line Ahead of Sales Launch
The first vehicle from a collaboration involving Chinese e-commerce leader JD.com has rolled off the production line in Changsha, signaling a new automotive venture ahead of a major sales event. The car, named the Aion UT Super, is the result of a partnership announced on October 14.
The project is a joint effort between JD.com, automaker Guangzhou Automobile Group Co, also known as GAC Group, and battery supplier Contemporary Amperex Technology, or CATL. Under the agreement, JD.com is responsible for providing consumer insights and serving as the exclusive sales channel, while GAC Group manages vehicle manufacturing.
To build anticipation, a special "No. 001" edition of the Aion UT Super was auctioned online, starting from a bid of one yuan. After an intense four-hour bidding session on October 22, the vehicle sold for RMB 78.19 million yuan (approximately US$10.9 million).
Production at the Changsha factory is reportedly operating at full capacity to meet initial customer demand, with the first deliveries scheduled to be on time.
The Aion UT Super is slated for its official release and sales launch during the annual "11.11" Day shopping festival in November 2025. It will be sold exclusively through JD.com's platform.
Preliminary specifications indicate the vehicle's body is composed of over 70% high-strength steel. It is said to have a curb weight 300 kilograms heavier than its class average and features a wider wheel track and tires. The vehicle has achieved a moose test result of over 75 km/h.
