JD.com's Six-Round Investment Spree Highlights Big Tech Rush Into Embodied AI Sector
JD.com has completed a sixth consecutive investment in the embodied artificial intelligence sector with new stakes in RoboScience and Qianxun Intelligence, as Chinese technology giants accelerate their push into robotics companies that integrate AI with physical capabilities. The e-commerce and logistics leader's investment streak spans from May 2025 through the latest deals, covering the entire embodied AI supply chain from robot hardware to core components and interactive AI models.
The investment wave reflects broader industry momentum as companies like Alibaba Group, Meituan, Baidu and Tencent pour capital into robotics startups. Industry observers expect the funding surge to accelerate initial public offerings among robotics companies, with several firms preparing Hong Kong and mainland Chinese stock exchange listings.
JD.com's systematic approach to embodied AI investments underscores the strategic importance major Chinese technology companies place on robotics integration. The sector combines artificial intelligence with physical robot systems, enabling machines to interact with and manipulate their physical environment through advanced algorithms and sensors.
JD.com Expands Robotics Portfolio Across Supply Chain
Corporate filings show RoboScience added JD.com's technology affiliate JD Technology Information Technology as a new shareholder, while increasing registered capital to RMB 2.02 million yuan(US$ 284 thousand). Qianxun Intelligence similarly added JD Technology and China Internet Investment Fund as shareholders, expanding registered capital from approximately RMB 1.95 million yuan(US$ 274 thousand) to RMB 2.37 million yuan(US$ 333 thousand).
Since May 2025, JD.com has invested in Pasini, Agibot, LimX Dynamics and Engine AI alongside the latest deals. The investment portfolio spans robot hardware, core components, motion control technology, embodied AI models and interactive large language models.
He Xiaodong, deputy director of JD.com's Exploration Research Institute, indicated the company's embodied AI investments would continue expanding beyond the current six deals. The investments align with JD.com's logistics operations, where robotics automation could enhance warehouse and delivery efficiency across the company's supply chain network.
Internal Development Complements Investment Strategy
JD.com established an intelligent robotics business unit within its 3C Digital Business Group while pursuing external investments. During the 2025 World Artificial Intelligence Conference in July, the company upgraded its large language model brand to JoyAI and launched the embodied intelligence brand JoyInside, which has partnered with over ten leading robotics and AI toy manufacturers.
The dual approach of internal development and external investments positions JD.com across multiple embodied AI applications, from warehouse automation to consumer robotics products.
Tech Giants Fuel Robotics Investment Boom
Alibaba and Ant Group have invested in LimX Dynamics, Unitree Robotics, X Square Robot, Robot Era, Galaxea AI, Linkerbot and CoreNetic.AI. Meituan's portfolio includes Unitree Robotics, X Square Robot, Galaxea AI, Tashizhihang, Future Robotics for logistics automation, Gaussian Robotics for commercial cleaning, Pudu Robotics for indoor delivery and Cornerstone Robotics for laparoscopic surgery robots.
The investment activity has accelerated IPO preparations across the robotics sector. Geek+ completed Hong Kong's largest robotics H-share IPO in July 2025, marking the year's biggest non-"A+H" technology company listing on the Hong Kong market.
IPO Pipeline Builds Momentum
Multiple robotics companies have submitted prospectuses for Hong Kong listings. Unitree Robotics announced plans to submit IPO documents between October and December 2025, though the company denied reports of a $7 billion valuation target. Agibot is pursuing a backdoor listing through acquiring Swancor Advanced Materials on Shanghai's STAR Market, while sources suggest the company maintains Hong Kong IPO intentions despite public denials of immediate plans.
An industrial robotics company executive indicated plans to submit a Hong Kong IPO application before year-end, reflecting broader industry momentum toward public listings as funding rounds accelerate sector consolidation and growth.
