For global investors, the takeaway is clear: while the "cool factor" of bipedal robots grabs headlines, the smart money is looking for ROI, supply chain moats, and software capable of navigating the data bottleneck.

The Humanoid Hype: Startups vs. Incumbents

The distinct split in the market is evident in the delivery targets set for the remainder of 2025 and into 2026. According to Morgan Stanley, new entrants are banking on rapid scaling that established players view with caution.

Startups targeting the humanoid form factor are setting "far more aggressive goals" compared to veterans of the intelligent robotics space. The incumbents are choosing to extend into humanoids gradually from their existing profitable business lines, rather than pivoting the entire ship.

Newcomer EngineAI, for instance, has projected deliveries of 300 units in 2025, with a massive jump to 3,000 units in 2026. These units are primarily targeted at growth areas such as entertainment, R&D, and sales services—sectors where novelty often outweighs pure industrial efficiency.

Conversely, the established industrial giants remain conservative regarding near-term industrial adoption. The notable exception is UBTECH Robotics. Positioning itself aggressively, UBTECH projects deliveries of 500 units in 2025, ramping up to 2,000–3,000 units in 2026, with a specific focus on industrial applications rather than mere service novelties.

The Reality Check: ROI Over Form Factor

While the public remains fascinated by robots that walk on two legs, the industrial sector remains ruthless about the bottom line.

Morgan Stanley notes a growing consensus among industry participants: in a factory setting, the "form factor" is increasingly irrelevant. Whether a robot has legs, wheels, or a fixed arm matters less than the return on investment (ROI).

"ROI is the critical metric," the analysts write, noting that adoption is driven entirely by "efficiency, accuracy, and cost." If a wheeled robot is faster and cheaper than a bipedal humanoid, the factory floor will choose wheels every time. This pragmatism suggests that while humanoids are the future of unstructured environments, they may face a harder sell in highly structured manufacturing lines where specialized automation already reigns supreme.

The Bottlenecks: Data and Hardware

As investors look to build "diversified baskets of robotics stocks," identifying the competitive moats is essential. The Morgan Stanley report highlights a sector-wide challenge: data availability for robot training.

Hardware is becoming commoditized, with most integrators emphasizing their in-house component development to control costs and build ecosystems. However, software—specifically the ability to train models effectively—is expected to be the "key competitive differentiator" moving forward.

There is, however, one hardware component that remains difficult to internalize: reducers.

The analysts point out that while most components are now built in-house by integrators, reducers are consistently outsourced. As the dominant supplier in this niche, Leader Harmonious Drive finds itself in a privileged position, effectively selling "shovels" in the middle of a robot gold rush.
