XPeng Deepens Europe Push With Five-Country Expansion
Chinese electric-vehicle maker XPeng Inc. is significantly expanding its European footprint by launching operations in five new countries, signaling a major acceleration of its global strategy to challenge established automakers on their home turf.
XPeng Inc. announced its official entry into Switzerland, Austria, Hungary, Slovenia, and Croatia. The move relies on partnerships with major local automotive retail and service groups to rapidly establish a presence and begin sales of its popular G6 and G9 models.
The expansion comes as the company’s overseas sales continue to surge and follows key steps in its localization efforts, including the start of vehicle production at a partner factory in Austria. These initiatives are designed to bolster XPeng’s competitiveness in the crowded European EV market and reduce its reliance on its domestic market.
By leveraging established dealership networks—a model the company has successfully deployed in Germany—XPeng aims to scale quickly across Central and Southeastern Europe, building on a presence that began in Norway in 2021.
A Multi-Pronged Market Entry
XPeng’s strategy involves distinct partnerships tailored to each region. In Switzerland, the company will collaborate with Hedin Group, a leading European mobility provider. The 2025 models of the G6 and G9 SUVs are slated for launch, with the P7+ sedan to follow in the first half of 2026. The sales network will start with a Hedin retail outlet in Dielsdorf and is planned to grow to 8-10 locations by the end of 2025 and an additional 10-20 in 2026.
“XPeng has significant advantages in manufacturing quality and smart technology,” said Ernst Ramic, CEO of Hedin Group, expressing confidence in the partnership.
In Austria, XPeng will launch in October 2025 using an authorized dealership model. The initial network will cover major cities, including Vienna and Salzburg, with plans to expand from 10 outlets by the end of 2025 to 20 by 2026. "We plan to replicate this successful model in Austria and more new markets," said Markus Schrick, Head of Central Europe for XPeng.
For its push into Hungary, Slovenia, and Croatia, XPeng will work with a joint venture formed by AutoWallis Group and Salvador Caetano Group. The company plans to launch pop-up stores in Budapest, Ljubljana, and Zagreb this autumn to showcase its vehicles and build brand awareness.
Surging Overseas Growth
The European offensive is backed by strong momentum in XPeng's international business. In the first eight months of 2025, the company’s deliveries in international markets, including Hong Kong and Macau, surged 137% year-over-year to 24,702 units.
XPeng claims the top spot among Chinese brands for high-end pure electric vehicle sales in Europe. Its G9 model is the best-selling Chinese-brand pure electric SUV in the mid-to-large segment in Europe, while the G6 has also been well-received. The company's sales and service network now spans over 46 countries and regions globally.
Deepening Localization Strategy
Crucially, XPeng is complementing its sales expansion with a deeper commitment to local production and research. In September 2025, the company began local production in Europe at partner Magna's factory in Graz, Austria, where the first G6 and G9 models have already rolled off the assembly line. The facility is expected to produce additional models in the future, enhancing supply chain efficiency and market responsiveness.
This follows other global manufacturing milestones, such as the delivery of the first locally assembled X9 model in Indonesia in July 2025.
To better tailor its products for European consumers, XPeng also inaugurated its first European R&D center in Munich during the 2025 IAA Mobility show. The company stated its goal is to continue accelerating its global expansion through technological innovation and localized operations to provide smarter and greener mobility solutions worldwide.
