Baidu Launches AI Smart Glasses at $304 Amid Intensifying Competition

Baidu has officially launched its Xiaodu AI Glasses Pro on November 10, marking the Chinese tech giant's entry into the burgeoning AI eyewear market. The device is priced at RMB 2,299 yuan, with a special promotional price of RMB 2,199 yuan during the Singles' Day shopping festival, and promises next-day delivery through JD.com.

This makes Baidu the second major Chinese internet company to release AI glasses commercially, following Alibaba's Quark AI Glasses S1, which is priced at RMB 4,699 yuan with a promotional discount to RMB 3,329 yuan and scheduled for December delivery. Xiaomi has also entered the market with AI glasses available at a promotional price as low as RMB 1,691 yuan.

The Xiaodu AI Glasses Pro, weighing 39 grams, features a 12-megapixel wide-angle camera capable of recording 1440p video at 30fps, equipped with image stabilization technology. The device includes a five-microphone array for voice recognition, an open-ear speaker design to prevent sound leakage, and ENC algorithm for clear calls. The glasses come with a 173mAh battery and a charging case.

The product incorporates multimodal AI large language models and offers various functions including photography, music recognition with automatic playlist matching, AI translation, object identification, voice recording, and memo-taking. The translation feature currently supports Chinese and English, with AI voice cloning technology to preserve natural tone and intonation.

Unlike more advanced AR-enabled AI glasses from competitors including Rokid and other brands, Baidu's product is classified as an AI photography device, similar in category to Xiaomi's offering. The device allows users to create voice memos by pointing at content and will support automated meeting transcription through future over-the-air updates.

The AI eyewear market remains in its early stages, with product prices ranging from RMB 900 yuan to RMB 9,000 yuan. Major technology companies including Huawei and Meizu have joined established players in the increasingly competitive sector. Industry observers note that despite the technological advances, market success will ultimately depend on genuine user experience and practical application of AI capabilities.
