The East Money Commercial Aerospace Index has surged roughly 51% since late November 2025, reaching 2,143 points by mid-May 2026. Against that backdrop, Minospace's race to the listing gate is strategically rational — but the prospectus it has filed is a document of contradictions.
Rivals Stumble, Clearing a Path Minospace Did Not Expect to Lead
The company's emergence as the frontrunner in China's commercial satellite IPO race owes as much to competitors' setbacks as to its own momentum. Chang Guang Satellite Technology, long considered the sector's most bankable name, voluntarily withdrew its IPO application in late 2024. Galaxy Space, arguably the most recognized brand in Chinese commercial satellite circles, only completed its regulatory counseling registration as recently as March 2026. Guoxing Aerospace attempted a Hong Kong listing but saw its prospectus lapse.
Minospace, by contrast, completed IPO counseling verification on April 29, 2026, and received STAR Market acceptance twelve days later. A telling strategic pivot occurred along the way: the company initially filed for counseling on ChiNext in September 2025 before abruptly switching to the STAR Market — a board that carries higher implicit prestige for deep-technology issuers and, critically, commands richer valuation multiples from institutional investors conditioned to price hard-science credentials.
Founder Pedigree Drives 14 Funding Rounds Totaling Over RMB 2 Billion
Founder and CEO Gao Enyu holds a doctorate in aerospace engineering from Pennsylvania State University and spent his formative career at two crown jewels of China's state aerospace complex: the China Academy of Launch Vehicle Technology (CAALT, or "First Academy") and the China Academy of Space Technology (CAST, or "Fifth Academy"), both subsidiaries of China Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation (CASC). His co-founders include Kong Lingbo, a master's graduate of Beihang University, and Huan Yiheng from Beijing Institute of Technology — both former CAST colleagues. In an industry where orbital mechanics and radar frequency allocations resist easy due-diligence, founder credentials function as a proxy for technical credibility. That calculus has served Minospace well: since its founding in 2017, the company has completed 14 funding rounds, raising more than RMB 2 billion (US$278 million) in total equity financing. Its cap table includes the China Development Bank Manufacturing Transformation and Upgrade Fund, Changjiang Aerospace Industrial Fund (a vehicle of China Aerospace Science and Industry Corporation), and Shenzhen Capital Group. In 2025 alone, the company raised RMB 1.56 billion (US$217 million) in equity financing, with a strategic round led by Shengyou Security reportedly pushing the post-money valuation to RMB 7.5 billion (US$1.04 billion).
Core Product Delivers 0.5-Meter Resolution — and a 5% Gross Margin
MinoSpace's flagship product is a 200-kilogram class remote-sensing satellite operating at approximately 500 kilometers altitude. The portfolio spans two complementary lines: optical satellites — essentially high-resolution cameras relying on reflected sunlight, capable of 0.5-meter spatial resolution using the company's self-developed 600mm-aperture optical system — and Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) satellites, which emit their own microwave pulses and can image through cloud cover, fog, and darkness.
The technology is credible. The commercial logic is narrower. As MinoSpace acknowledges in its own prospectus, its chosen international comparables — Finland's ICEYE and U.S.-listed Planet Labs (PL) — derive the bulk of their revenue from defense, intelligence, and government procurement. The downstream customer base for high-resolution remote sensing is not a broad commercial market; it is a concentrated pool of budget-driven buyers: local governments, state-owned enterprises, defense procurement agencies, and research institutions whose purchase decisions track fiscal calendars and policy cycles rather than product performance alone.
That structural dependency explains the company's revenue trajectory. Revenue for 2023, 2024, and 2025 came in at RMB 51.08 million (US$7.1 million), RMB 40.01 million (US$5.6 million), and RMB 385 million (US$53.5 million), respectively — a near-tenfold jump in a single year, driven by a reported step-change in batch procurement from government and defense clients beginning in 2025.
Yet the revenue surge failed to translate into profitability. Net losses attributable to shareholders totaled RMB 600 million, RMB 312 million, and RMB 181 million in 2023, 2024, and 2025, respectively, resulting in a cumulative three-year loss of approximately RMB 1.09 billion (US$151 million).
EPC Business Model Compresses Margins Where It Hurts Most
The financial architecture underlying those losses deserves close scrutiny. MinoSpace describes its operating model as "integrated satellite-ground one-stop delivery services" — a phrase that translates in practice to a high-technology Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) general contractor. When a client orders a satellite, the company coordinates component sourcing, handles final assembly, negotiates launch slots with rocket providers, and constructs ground receiving stations. Every link in that chain introduces execution risk and defers revenue recognition.
The margin consequences are stark. In 2025, core aerospace products generated revenue of RMB 302 million (US$41.9 million), representing 78.87% of total revenue, but generated only RMB 15.3 million (US$2.1 million) in gross profit, implying a gross margin of just 5.05%. By contrast, ground equipment products and on-orbit services — smaller revenue lines — posted gross margins of 34.87% and 47.01%, respectively. The company's most important business segment is also its least profitable one.
Period expenses compound the problem. administrative expenses reached RMB 76.5 million (US$10.6 million), nearly 70% of the company's R&D spending of RMB 110 million (US$15.3 million). The ratio of administrative overhead to R&D spending — roughly 0.7x — is an unusual profile for a company positioning itself as a deep-technology platform.
Cash Drain Reveals the Real Purpose Behind the RMB 5 Billion Raise
The working capital dynamics of the EPC model create a structural cash squeeze that revenue growth alone cannot resolve. On the upstream side, China's commercial launch market remains supply-constrained, and rocket providers demand prepayment. MinoSpace's prepaid accounts surged from RMB 119 million at end-2024 to RMB 213 million (US$29.6 million) at end-2025.
On the downstream side, government and state-owned enterprise (SOE) clients — which hold significant contractual leverage — often require suppliers to post performance bonds equivalent to 10% of total contract value. As a result, the company's other receivables jumped from RMB 8.88 million to RMB 90.86 million (US$12.6 million) over the same period.
The result: operating cash outflows of RMB 210 million, RMB 376 million, and RMB 189 million in 2023, 2024, and 2025, respectively — a cumulative three-year drain of approximately RMB 775 million (US$107.6 million). Even as 2025 revenue grew nearly tenfold year-on-year, operating cash flow remained negative.
China's ITU filing in the final week of 2025 — seeking frequency and orbital resources for an additional 203,000 satellites across 14 constellations — signals the scale of national ambition in low-Earth orbit. For MinoSpace, capturing that opportunity will require sustained capital investment long before it generates sustained returns. The RMB 5 billion IPO proceeds, viewed through the lens of three consecutive years of negative operating cash flow and a core-product gross margin in the single digits, is less a growth-financing event than a structural recapitalization of a business that has not yet demonstrated it can earn its cost of capital.
The "first commercial satellite stock" label will generate premium attention and valuation optionality. Whether MinoSpace can convert that attention into a business model with durable margins — shifting from high-technology general contractor to high-margin data and services platform — is the question that will define the stock's trajectory after the opening bell.
