Chinese Mobile Game Developer Tests Beyond Animal Theme with Post-Apocalyptic SLG
Xinghe Interstellar Entertainment, the studio behind hit animal-themed strategy game "Tiny Ants Kingdom," is expanding its portfolio with a post-apocalyptic survival title that generated 2.1 million yuan (US$290,000) in November revenue, marking a 152% month-over-month increase during its second testing phase.
The Sichuan-based developer, founded in 2019, has conducted two rapid expansion tests for "Dawn Watch: Survival" within a single month. The game has accumulated over 1.5 million downloads across both testing periods since its May soft launch, signaling the company's strategic shift beyond its signature animal-themed strategy game category.
The performance comes as Xinghe Interstellar Entertainment seeks to diversify away from its core competency. While the company gained market recognition with animal-themed strategy games, particularly "Tiny Ants Kingdom" which generated 20 million yuan in November, subsequent titles in the category have underperformed, with "Beast Lord" earning 6.85 million yuan and "World of Water" generating less than 700,000 yuan in the same month.
Aggressive Testing Strategy Shows Early Promise
"Dawn Watch: Survival" launched its initial soft launch on Google Play in select markets in mid-May 2025, with App Store availability expanding in mid-October. The game is now available in over 170 regional markets. The first expansion test began in late September, reaching a peak daily download rate of 34,000 on October 3 before declining to around 15,000. Total October downloads reached approximately 661,000.
A second expansion test launched in early November coinciding with iOS availability, with daily downloads returning to around 30,000 and maintaining that level for approximately two weeks. November downloads totaled 621,000, roughly matching October's figures. Daily downloads have since declined to around 6,000 as advertising spending has contracted.
Revenue growth has proven more consistent than download trends. The game generated 834,000 yuan in October before surging to 2.1 million yuan in November. December figures show moderate decline within normal parameters, with current daily revenue at approximately 60,000 yuan against a peak of 85,000 yuan. Total accumulated revenue stands at approximately 3.6 million yuan as of mid-December.
Geographic and Platform Distribution
Russia leads download volume at 28.46%, followed by the United States at 13.64% and Iraq at 4.52%. Google Play accounts for 81.73% of total downloads. The revenue picture differs significantly, with the United States contributing 46.97%, followed by Germany at 7.19% and France at 6.41%. Google Play's revenue share stands at 66.78%.
Revenue per download shows substantial platform variation, with App Store generating 4.34 yuan per download compared to 1.95 yuan on Google Play.
Gameplay Mechanics Follow Proven Formula
"Dawn Watch: Survival" adopts a Western-themed post-apocalyptic setting with comic book aesthetics and robust character design. The narrative centers on a sheriff leading survivors from a simple watchtower to rebuild civilization while defending against zombie invasions.
The gameplay structure closely resembles ClickClick Interactive's "Kingshot," which launched in February 2025 and has generated 2.65 billion yuan in cumulative revenue excluding domestic Android, with current monthly revenue of 42 million yuan. Both titles employ Thronefall-style tower defense mechanics combined with simulation management during early progression.
Mid-game content expands to include campaign progression and card-based character development featuring upgrades, star ratings, equipment and skill books. Combat follows the "Whiteout Survival" model with five-hero formations, with progression tied directly to main base resource generation efficiency. World map and conventional strategy game mechanics unlock after approximately 50 minutes of gameplay when the settlement reaches medium town status.
Additional Titles in Development Pipeline
Xinghe Interstellar Entertainment is testing two other titles alongside "Dawn Watch." "Fortune Hunter: Golden Saga" originally tested in August 2025 as "Top Miner" with monopoly-style gameplay before pivoting to Thronefall-style mine cart defense mechanics in November. The game currently operates in soft launch across 52 countries on Google Play without generating trackable market data.
"Last Furry: Survival" targets the niche furry demographic with biochemical world setting and toxic fog mechanics. Early gameplay resembles "Whiteout Survival" base management before transitioning to strategy elements. The title launched in select Southeast Asian markets on Google Play in mid-November and initiated advertising December 1 with over 1,700 creative assets deployed within eight days before pullback. No market data has emerged to date.
The diversification strategy reflects Xinghe Interstellar Entertainment's attempt to balance continued refinement of animal-themed titles with pursuit of trending genres and gameplay mechanics in the competitive mobile strategy game market.
