Chinese Robotics Firm Youibot, a Global Leader in its Niche, Files for Hong Kong IPO

Youibot Robotics, a leading Chinese developer of industrial mobile robots, has filed for an initial public offering in Hong Kong, aiming to capitalize on the surging demand for automation and embodied intelligence in high-end manufacturing.

The company, officially known as Youibot Robotics, submitted its prospectus to the Hong Kong Stock Exchange on September 27, according to the exchange’s website. The firm plans to list on the main board under Chapter 18C, a regime designed for specialist technology companies, with China International Capital Corp. (CICC) acting as the sole sponsor.

A successful listing would establish Youibot as the first publicly traded company focused on mobile manipulation robots on the Hong Kong exchange. According to a Frost & Sullivan report cited in its filing, Youibot was the world's largest industrial mobile manipulation robot provider by revenue in 2024.

The IPO will serve as a key test of investor appetite for Chinese technology stocks in a cautious market. Youibot’s move seeks to leverage its strong market position and the growing investor interest in embodied AI, a technology that enables robots to interact with the physical world in a more human-like way.

From University Lab to Industry Leader

Youibot’s origins trace back to a robotics lab at Xi'an Jiaotong University. The company was founded in 2017 by a team of doctorate-level researchers led by Zhang Zhaohui, the company's 32-year-old chairman and CEO. Zhang, who is completing his PhD in mechanical engineering, steered the young company to an early success by securing a major contract with Michelin for a commercial vehicle inspection robot.

The company's core leadership team includes veterans from prominent tech and industrial firms. Co-founder and CTO Bian Xu is also from the founding university team, while Executive Director and Vice General Manager Zheng Hao previously served as CTO of Michelin China’s incubator. Chief Strategy Officer Mei Wanqing joined in 2020 from drone giant DJI. In 2024, Zheng was the highest-paid executive with an annual salary of 1.37 million yuan, while CEO Zhang’s was 1.1 million yuan.

Rapid Revenue Growth, Margin Expansion

Youibot has demonstrated strong financial growth, with revenue compounding at an annual rate of 80.9% between 2022 and 2024. The company’s sales grew to RMB 255 million yuan (US$35.4 million) in 2024, up from 108 million yuan in 2023. For the first half of 2025, revenue increased 27% year-on-year to 127 million yuan.

Profitability has also improved significantly. Gross margin expanded from 11.2% in 2022 to 35.2% in 2024, and further to 38.1% in the first six months of 2025. Youibot attributed the margin improvement to economies of scale that lowered procurement and manufacturing costs, as well as an increasing revenue share from higher-margin solutions for the semiconductor industry.

Dominance in Semiconductor and Energy Sectors

Youibot's business is centered on two primary scenarios: industrial logistics and inspection & maintenance. Industrial logistics accounted for 61.3% of revenue in the first half of 2025, up from 54.2% in 2024. The inspection & maintenance segment, while smaller, is more profitable, boasting a gross margin of nearly 56% in the first half of 2025, driven by demand from clients in the energy and semiconductor sectors.

The company holds a dominant position in several key verticals. It claims the top global market share for its solutions in the semiconductor industry and ranks among the top three globally in the energy and chemical sectors. This foothold is supported by high customer loyalty, with repeat purchase rates reaching 83% among semiconductor clients and 92% for customers in the lithium-ion battery industry.

Embodied Intelligence and Star-Studded Investors

At the core of Youibot's technology is its "One Brain, Multiple Forms" embodied intelligence model. This platform uses a multi-modal foundational AI model to control and coordinate different types of robots, allowing them to perform complex tasks in industrial settings. The company is focusing on developing vertical-specific models for sectors like semiconductors and precision manufacturing to address specific operational challenges.

Youibot’s growth has been backed by a roster of prominent venture capital and strategic investors, including SoftBank Ventures Asia, IDG Capital, Bluerun Ventures, SIG Asia Investments, and SCGC. The company has completed nine rounds of financing since its inception. Proceeds from the IPO are earmarked for advancing its embodied intelligence technology, building a new multi-functional center for R&D and operations, boosting its international brand presence, and pursuing potential strategic investments and acquisitions.
