DJI Launches Osmo Action 6 Camera with Industry-First Variable Aperture
DJI has unveiled its Osmo Action 6 action camera on November 13, marking a significant upgrade with the industry's first variable aperture system for action cameras and a new 1/1.1-inch square CMOS sensor.
The standard bundle is priced at RMB 2,998 yuan, while the creator combo retails for RMB 3,698 yuan. Optional DJI Care insurance plans are available for one or two years at RMB 189 yuan and RMB 299 yuan respectively.
The camera's headline feature is its f/2.0-4.0 variable aperture, adjustable based on shooting conditions. In automatic mode, the aperture adjusts to lighting conditions, while the super night mode opens to f/2.0 for enhanced low-light performance. A starlight mode narrows to f/4.0 to create star-burst effects around light sources.
The upgraded 1/1.1-inch square CMOS sensor features 2.4μm pixels and a 13.5-stop dynamic range, supporting 4K 120fps recording in 4:3 aspect ratio. The square sensor enables a "Free Crop" mode, allowing users to reframe footage for both horizontal 16:9 and vertical 9:16 formats from a single recording—ideal for adapting content across different social media platforms.
Professional features include 10-bit D-Log M color mode for advanced color grading, in-camera preview capabilities, and Super Stabilization 3.0 with 4K horizon leveling. The camera introduces 2x lossless zoom at 4K resolution and a daily wide-angle mode that reduces vertical distortion for natural vlog footage.
The device includes 50GB internal storage to prevent memory card oversights, a pre-recording function capturing up to five minutes of footage before pressing record, and timecode synchronization for multi-camera setups. Connectivity supports Wi-Fi 6.0 with 80MB/s wireless transfer speeds and USB 3.1 reaching 300MB/s.
DJI's OsmoAudio ecosystem allows direct connection to two wireless microphones without a receiver, with simultaneous ambient audio backup recording. The camera operates in temperatures from -20°C to 34°C and offers 20-meter waterproofing without additional housing.
Battery life extends to four hours of continuous recording, with fast charging restoring 80% capacity in 22 minutes. The camera features built-in color temperature sensors and a barometer for recording professional metadata during shoots.
