Dreame Enters EV Fray With Ultra-Luxury Hypercar, Sidestepping Domestic Price War
Dreame Technology, a company known for its high-end smart home appliances, is venturing into the electric vehicle market with an ambitious plan to launch an ultra-luxury hypercar in 2027, pitting itself against established players like Bugatti in the elite performance segment.
The Chinese technology firm officially announced its move into automaking on August 28, revealing that its first model will be a pure-electric hypercar and declaring its goal is to "build the world's fastest car."
The company stated it has already assembled a team of nearly 1,000 employees for the project and is committed to long-term investment in the automotive sector, signaling a serious challenge to the ultra-high-end market.
In a strategic departure from most domestic counterparts, Dreame intends to initially bypass China’s fiercely competitive EV landscape, which is currently undergoing a period of intense consolidation. Instead, the company will prioritize overseas markets for its debut vehicle, aiming to leverage its existing global brand presence and sales channels.
The move aims to fill a perceived gap in the market by integrating advanced AI and smart technology into the ultra-luxury segment, which has traditionally focused more on mechanical performance. Dreame seeks to transform the hypercar from a "cold machine" into an "intelligent interactive terminal," capitalizing on China's rapid advancements in smart technology.
Chasing the ‘Apple Opportunity’
Dreame is targeting what it identifies as an underserved niche in the global auto market. While many Chinese EV manufacturers are locked in a battle for the mass-market and low-end segments, Dreame executives believe the needs of ultra-high-end consumers are not being fully met. The company sees an "Apple opportunity" to capture this market by establishing a globally recognized premium Chinese brand.
The company’s product plan is bold, with the goal of creating the world's best-performing ultra-luxury brand. To rival a name like Bugatti, Dreame is emphasizing extreme performance, powered by its proprietary "super motor" technology. "Dreame's goal is to build the world's fastest car," the company stated, promising an unparalleled power experience for users.
From Vacuums to Vehicles
Dreame Technology plans to leverage its existing technological expertise to make the leap into automaking. The company argues that an electric vehicle is essentially another form of "robot," allowing for significant technology transfer from its core business in smart cleaning devices.
As of June 30, 2025, the company had applied for 6,379 patents globally and been granted 3,155. Its strengths lie in areas such as high-speed digital motors, AI algorithms, and sensor control systems—all of which are critical for developing modern EVs. Dreame reports it has already made breakthroughs in motor technology, AI interaction, and smart cockpits, which it believes provides the foundation to build a hypercar comparable to a Bugatti Veyron. This strategy is also rooted in the philosophy of founder Yu Hao, whose motto, "Either don't do it, or be the world's number one," is prominently displayed in the company's offices.
Global Ambitions, Local Supply Chain
Dreame’s go-to-market strategy hinges on a "China R&D + global sales" model. The company will utilize China’s complete and cost-efficient new energy vehicle supply chain, where giants like CATL and BYD dominate over 70% of global battery production, to control costs while developing a high-performance product.
By launching in overseas markets first, Dreame aims to avoid the domestic market's intense competition. The company already has a substantial international footprint, with products sold in over 100 countries and a network of more than 6,000 physical stores. This existing infrastructure, serving over 30 million households, is expected to lower the barrier to entry for its automotive business abroad compared to competing in China.
Market data supports this outward-looking approach. In Europe, a relatively mature market, new energy vehicle penetration was around 20%-30% in December 2024, indicating significant room for growth. A Dreame executive summarized the strategy: "The world's mode of operation is changing. The future will be about global resources, Chinese R&D, local manufacturing, and world consumption."
