Huawei-Backed Stelato Launches Updated S9 Sedan Starting at US$42,730 to Challenge Luxury Rivals
The Harmony Intelligent Mobility Alliance (HIMA), the automotive collaboration led by Huawei Technologies, officially launched the updated Stelato S9 sedan on November 20, 2025. Developed in partnership with BAIC BluePark New Energy Technology, the new model introduces aggressive pricing and upgraded autonomous driving hardware to consolidate its position in China's premium new energy vehicle market.
The updated Stelato S9 is available in both extended-range electric vehicle (EREV) and battery electric vehicle (BEV) configurations. The EREV version is priced between RMB 309,800 (US$42,730) and RMB 349,800, while the pure electric version ranges from RMB 329,800 to RMB 369,800. The pricing strategy marks a significant reduction for the pure electric variants, aimed at undercutting traditional luxury competitors.
Market response has been robust. The previous S9T model secured over 30,000 firm orders within 66 days of its debut, leading the domestic sales charts for new energy sedans priced above RMB 300,000. The newly updated S9 received more than 20,000 pre-orders in the 13 days leading up to its official launch.
While the exterior design remains largely unchanged from the flagship S9T, the update focuses on technological and aerodynamic refinements. The vehicle features over 100 aerodynamic optimizations to enhance range and is equipped with the full-spec Huawei Qiankun ADS 4 autonomous driving system, utilizing four LiDAR sensors.
Interior upgrades include a larger 16.1-inch central control screen and a new 12.3-inch passenger entertainment screen. Rear passengers now utilize MagLink Mini control screens, a feature adopted from the AITO M9, replacing traditional armrest controls for better usability. The automaker emphasized comfort features, including "zero-gravity" seats and enhanced sound isolation that rivals the ultra-luxury Maextro S800.
During the launch, the company presented data comparing the S9 favorably against established luxury sedans from Mercedes-Benz and BMW, citing superior performance in braking distances, moose tests, and cabin quietness.
In a move to expand its portfolio, HIMA also officially teased a forthcoming flagship MPV, which will round out its product lineup. To meet anticipated demand, officials confirmed that the Stelato "Super Factory" has upgraded its production capacity to ensure efficient delivery and stricter quality control.
