Huawei's Latest Smartwatch Reportedly Features Unreleased HarmonyOS 6.0
A recent report has revealed that Huawei’s newly launched Watch GT 6 is receiving a software update for HarmonyOS 6.0, the company’s next-generation operating system, even before its official public rollout. The development is unexpected, as the new OS is still in beta testing for the company's flagship smartphones.
According to a technology news report published on September 29, 2025, the update, identified as version 6.0.0.153, is being delivered to the new wearable with a file size of approximately 139 MB. This makes the Watch GT 6 the first device to apparently run a market-ready version of the new software.
The early appearance of the new operating system is notable, as HarmonyOS 6.0 is currently available only in beta versions for select flagship devices from Huawei Technologies, such as the Pura 80 and Mate 70 series smartphones. The stable, public version was not expected to be released until later in 2025. The official product listing for the Watch GT 6 does not specify which version of HarmonyOS it runs.
The report states that the update introduces a native WeChat application, allowing users to view messages, send replies, and access WeChat Pay from the watch. However, it also highlights a key limitation: this functionality requires the smartwatch to be paired with a smartphone that is also running HarmonyOS 6.0, which severely limits its current usability.
Huawei has not yet issued an official comment on the early availability of the new operating system on its latest wearable.
This development could signal an accelerated or staggered rollout strategy for Huawei's new OS ecosystem. However, the full capabilities of the Watch GT 6 will likely remain limited until HarmonyOS 6.0 is widely distributed to the company’s smartphones and other devices, an event expected after the current beta phase concludes.
