JPMorgan Sees A "Chinese Hello Kitty" In The Making As Pop Mart Unleashes "Super IP" On The World

In a bullish note that is sure to turn heads, JP Morgan analysts on August 15, 2025, doubled down on their "Overweight" rating for Pop Mart International Group Limited , outlining a cascade of catalysts that could propel the art toy giant into a new stratosphere of global IP monetization. Coming just days before the company's highly anticipated 1H 2025 earnings release, the report highlights an imminent collaboration with Uniqlo as a pivotal test for its star character, Labubu, and a potential blueprint for creating what the bank calls "a Chinese Hello Kitty in the making."

For investors tracking China's consumer and cultural export stories, the JPM analysis provides a critical roadmap for what to watch in the coming weeks and months.

The "Uniqlo x Labubu" Global Blitz

The immediate catalyst is a major licensing deal with Japanese retail behemoth Uniqlo. This partnership moves Pop Mart's IP from the realm of collectible toys to mass-market apparel, a critical step in building a durable, global brand. JP Morgan sees this as a significant, and as-yet unpriced, growth driver.

The bank details the aggressive global rollout schedule:

Pop Mart and Uniqlo jointly announced the launch of “Uniqlo x Labubu UT series” on 22 Aug in Mainland China and Hong Kong, before gradually rolling out in Japan (25 Aug), Singapore (5 Sept), Malaysia (12 Sept), the UK (mid Sept), France (18 Sept), Thailand (late Sept), and the US (early Nov). The collection features Labubu T-shirts and Labubu sweatshirts in four colors (white, black, gray, and pink) and seven designs... The Labubu T-shirt selling price is consistent with traditional Uniqlo UT series pricing, an affordable level for most consumers.

JPM emphasizes that this is not just another collaboration but a strategic leap. The potential for a successful launch could trigger a fundamental re-evaluation of the company's earnings potential and valuation.

Licensing is one of the most important strategies to promote IP innovation and monetize IP value, in our view... If the launch proves a success, we expect upside in both earnings estimates and valuation multiples (we haven’t factored in Uniqlo x Labubu licensing in our financial modeling yet). Pop Mart remains our top pick in the China consumer universe.

Beyond The Collab: Explosive Fundamentals

While the Uniqlo deal grabs the headlines, the underlying fundamentals are already showing explosive growth. A recent positive profit alert signaled that 1H 2025 revenue could soar by over 200% and post-tax profit by a staggering 350% year-over-year.

However, JPM urges clients to look past the headline numbers in the upcoming August 19 earnings report and focus on the quality and structure of this growth. Specifically, they are watching for IP diversification and the accelerating dominance of overseas markets.

With low uncertainty on the earnings numbers, we expect positive surprises coming from: (1) Crybaby becoming the 2nd largest IP (to diversify the concentration risk of Labubu, which contributes 30% of 1H25 revenues by our estimation); (2) faster-than-expected high-margin overseas business (to contribute more than 60% of group sales and 65% of group OP in 2026E, by our estimation); and (3) uplift in guidance.

According to JPM's estimates, overseas revenue is projected to grow an astonishing 435% in the first half of 2025, accounting for 52.6% of total company sales—up from just 29.7% in the prior year period.

A Six-Pack of Catalysts

Looking beyond the immediate earnings and Uniqlo launch, JP Morgan lays out a dense pipeline of value-unlocking events expected through the end of the year. This packed schedule suggests a sustained period of positive news flow for the company.

The bank identifies "six consecutive catalysts to watch":

(1) 1H25 print (due on 19 Aug; we suggest to focus on earnings quality/structure), (2) Labubu x Uniqlo T-shirts to launch on 22 Aug (just announced); (3) 1st season of “Labubu & Friends” animation to debut in Aug/Sept...; (4) two newly opened “POPOP” jewelry shops to carry Labubu & Crybaby; (5) Labubu 4.0 trailer/launch ahead of X’mas/CNY holidays (JPMe) and (6) possible launch of interactive/AI toys (JPMe).

With a price target of HK$340.00 implying a 34x 2026E P/E, JP Morgan is betting that Pop Mart is successfully executing a rare transformation from a domestic retail phenomenon into a global IP powerhouse. While risks like IP fatigue and overseas execution failures remain, the sheer velocity of its growth and the strategic depth of its upcoming catalysts suggest that the story of the "Chinese Hello Kitty" is only just beginning.
