Oppo to Unveil Find X9 Flagship, Shifting Strategy With Flat Screens and Upgraded Power
Oppo is set to launch its new Find X9 flagship smartphone series on October 16, signaling a strategic shift by abandoning curved displays in favor of flat screens while incorporating significant upgrades to battery life and camera technology, all powered by MediaTek's latest high-end chip.
The Chinese smartphone maker, OPPO, officially revealed the full design and color options for its upcoming Find X9 and Find X9 Pro models ahead of their global debut. The announcement confirms the company's new direction for its premium line, positioning the devices to compete in the crowded year-end market for high-end smartphones.
The new series will be among the first to feature MediaTek's Dimensity 9500 processor, a move that underscores the intensifying competition in the mobile chipset space. More critically for its market positioning, Oppo is heavily promoting substantial enhancements in battery capacity and periscope camera technology, alongside a return to flat screens across the entire lineup.
This launch is pivotal for Oppo as it seeks to differentiate its premium offerings. The focus on practical features like extended battery life and a return to user-friendly flat screens could appeal to a segment of the market fatigued by the curved-edge trend, potentially influencing future design choices across the industry.
A Bet on MediaTek and Performance
The Find X9 series will be in the first wave of devices to adopt the new MediaTek Dimensity 9500 flagship platform. According to official information released by Oppo, the chipset has achieved a benchmark score exceeding four million, indicating a significant leap in processing power. This choice highlights Oppo's strategy to leverage cutting-edge components to challenge competitors in the premium performance tier.
Design Reversal and Display
In a notable course correction from a long-standing industry trend, the entire Find X9 series will feature flat screens. The standard Find X9 will have a 6.59-inch display, while the Pro model will come with a larger 6.78-inch screen. To improve ergonomics, the devices will incorporate an "ultra-large-curvature frame" designed to provide a more comfortable and rounded grip.
The standard Find X9 will be available in four colors: Velvet Titanium, Frost White, Fog Black, and Chasing Red. The Find X9 Pro will be offered in Sandblasted Titanium, Chasing Red, and Frost White.
Focus on Camera and Battery Endurance
Oppo is continuing its emphasis on mobile imaging, equipping the entire series with a "Danxia color reproduction lens." The standard Find X9 will feature a 50-megapixel periscope telephoto lens that also supports macro photography. The Find X9 Pro will receive a significant upgrade to a 200-megapixel periscope lens.
The series also introduces major improvements in battery life, utilizing what Oppo calls "Glacier Battery" technology. The Find X9 Pro will house a 7500mAh battery while maintaining the same 8.25mm thickness as its predecessor. The standard Find X9 will have a 7025mAh battery within a 7.9mm thick body, which the company claims is the largest in its class for that thickness.
