Rokid has reframed the AI glasses race with a short viral demo that replaces app-hopping with a system-level “AIUI” flow—an interface shift that could redirect mobile traffic, developer economics and hardware value capture away from the smartphone-era app store model.
The immediate catalyst was a video posted by Rokid founder and CEO Zhu Mingming showing hands-free, natural-language commands that return visual outputs—such as a dynamically rendered stock-price chart and weather graphics—without opening dedicated apps. Developer and Platform Economics Look Set for a Reset
Rokid’s AIUI pitch includes support for JS rendering, a choice that could widen the developer funnel by letting web-style front-end talent build agent-callable services without shipping full apps. In practical terms, that lowers the cost of experimentation and speeds iteration—two dynamics that historically accelerate ecosystem lock-in.
For platforms, the risk is disintermediation: if user intent routes through a system agent, app-level branding and ad inventory could lose prominence.
