Shanghai eVTOL Developer Vertaxi Secures Funds to Accelerate Airworthiness Certification

Vertaxi, a Shanghai-based electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) aircraft developer, has secured a new financing round exceeding RMB 100 million (US$13.8 million) to advance the certification and commercialization of its aircraft.

The funding round was led by Civil Aviation Investment Fund Management, an investment vehicle established under State Council guidelines to focus on civil aviation and the low-altitude economy. While the specific valuation was not disclosed, the capital injection highlights growing investor interest in China’s burgeoning low-altitude transport sector.

Proceeds from the round will be directed toward the testing, flight verification, and airworthiness certification of Vertaxi’s flagship 2-ton aircraft, the M1. The company plans to accelerate the deployment of the M1 in scenarios including emergency rescue, logistics, and infrastructure inspection.

Vertaxi successfully completed the maiden flight of the M1 in October 2023. The Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC) accepted the airworthiness application for its M1B model in 2024. Throughout 2025, the company has completed multiple critical tests as part of the certification process.

The company has outlined a phased commercial strategy, prioritizing cargo transport before passenger travel and operating in suburban areas before entering complex urban environments. Vertaxi projects that commercial operations for large eVTOLs will commence in the second half of 2026, targeting logistics and emergency services. Certification for manned operations is expected by approximately 2028.

Vertaxi reported that its smaller eVTOL models have achieved mass production and are currently generating cash flow. For its larger platforms, the company recently secured significant strategic interest. During the China International Import Expo in November 2025, BOC Financial Leasing signed an intention agreement to procure 100 M1 passenger aircraft.

Internationally, the company has expanded its footprint into the Middle East. Aerial Solutions, a Saudi Arabian low-altitude mobility provider, has signed an intent to purchase 100 M1B cargo aircraft to support logistics and offshore energy transport in the region.

According to Civil Aviation Investment Fund Management, the investment reflects confidence in Vertaxi’s supply chain localization and the commercial clarity of its development path. The fund aims to leverage its industry resources to assist the manufacturer in speeding up regulatory approvals and market entry.
