Xiaomi Reportedly Eyes Four New Vehicle Launches in 2026, Targeting Premium SUV Market
Xiaomi is preparing to expand its automotive lineup significantly in 2026 with as many as four new models, including an extended-range SUV aimed at competing directly with Huawei's premium Aito M9, according to unconfirmed reports circulating in Chinese media. The move, if realized, would mark the company's most aggressive push yet into China's fiercely competitive new energy vehicle market.
The reports gained traction after Hu Zhengnan, a partner at Shunwei Capital, posted images of heavily camouflaged SUV test vehicles on Sunday morning, writing he would help "test the cars everyone is waiting for." Zhang Jianhui, vice president of Xiaomi Group, also shared images of disguised vehicles undergoing cold-weather testing. While neither executive confirmed specific model names, the posts suggest Xiaomi's extended-range SUV program may be entering its promotional phase.
The rumored expansion would represent a sharp departure from Xiaomi's cautious rollout strategy of the past two years, during which the company launched just three models. However, none of these plans have been officially confirmed by Xiaomi, and the timing and specifications remain subject to speculation.
Analysts note that Xiaomi faces significant production capacity constraints, with delivery wait times for current models stretching to several months. Adding multiple new models simultaneously could strain both manufacturing capabilities and quality control systems.
New-Generation SU7 Leads Confirmed Lineup
The only officially acknowledged 2026 model is the next-generation SU7 sedan. CEO Lei Jun disclosed during a livestream that Xiaomi's factory production lines are being prepared for the new SU7, with only limited inventory of the current YU7 available for pre-holiday delivery.
The new-generation SU7 carries a pre-sale price range of RMB 229,900 to RMB 309,900 (US$31,700 to US$42,700), representing a RMB 10,000 to RMB 14,000 increase over the original model. The upgrade focuses on internal capabilities rather than exterior design, with all variants now featuring an 800V platform, maximum range extending to 902 kilometers, standard four-piston brake calipers, and Thor-U chip integration.
According to a report by China Securities Journal, multiple Xiaomi-owned stores in Beijing, Shanghai, and Wuhan have each received over 100 deposits within half a month of pre-sales opening. The original SU7 has maintained monthly deliveries exceeding 40,000 units for three consecutive months through December 2025, establishing a strong foundation for the successor model.
Reports also suggest an extended-wheelbase SU7 Executive version, internally designated MS11-L, may arrive in the second half of 2026. Spy photos from August 2025 indicated a vehicle measuring approximately 5.2 meters in length with a wheelbase extended by 80-100 millimeters to around 3.1 meters. The model would reportedly target the RMB 300,000 to RMB 400,000 segment currently unoccupied by Xiaomi's sedan lineup, though details remain scarce beyond the initial sighting.
YU9 Targets Three-Row SUV Battleground
The most anticipated rumored model is the YU9, an extended-range SUV allegedly positioned to compete in China's hotly contested large three-row SUV segment against established players including Aito M9, Li Auto L9, Zeekr 9X, and NIO ES8.
Unverified reports suggest the YU9 will measure over 5.2 meters in length with a wheelbase around 3.1 meters. The vehicle is rumored to feature an 80-kilowatt-hour battery pack delivering over 400 kilometers of pure electric range and total range exceeding 1,200 kilometers. Multiple media outlets have reported the SUV may utilize a Xiaomi-developed 1.5-liter four-cylinder range extender paired with dual-motor all-wheel drive producing over 300 kilowatts.
Zhang's test vehicle image showing illuminated blue lights suggests advanced driver assistance capabilities may be included, though the specific vehicle in the photo could not be confirmed as the YU9.
Pricing speculation centers around a RMB 350,000 ($48,300) starting price, positioning the YU9 RMB 50,000 to RMB 110,000 below competitors like the Li Auto L9, Aito M9, and Zeekr 9X. This would place it closer to models such as Voyah Tanshen, IM LS9, and Aito M8. Given the YU7's RMB 253,500 to RMB 329,900 price range, the YU9's starting price would need to maintain sufficient separation from the smaller SUV while accommodating rumored lower-positioned models designated Kunlun N1 and N2.
Industry observers expect any official preview or announcement would likely occur before the Beijing Auto Show in April, when automakers typically concentrate new product launches.
Capacity Constraints Cloud Expansion Plans
If all rumored models materialize in 2026, Xiaomi would launch six vehicles: three extended-range SUVs, one high-performance electric sports car, and two pure electric sedans. This would dramatically accelerate beyond the company's 2024-2025 pace of three total launches, only one of which—the SU7 Ultra—targeted a niche performance segment.
Production capacity remains a critical constraint. Despite achieving over 40,000 monthly deliveries for three consecutive months through December 2025, Xiaomi vehicles currently face delivery wait times ranging from dozens of weeks to six months. Adding multiple new models would require production line adjustments and ramp-up periods, potentially straining quality control and supply chain management.
The unconfirmed strategy suggests Xiaomi aims to broaden its market reach in 2026. The new-generation SU7 would continue appealing to younger buyers prioritizing driving dynamics and design, while the YU9 would pursue family buyers in the premium three-row SUV segment where brands like Li Auto, NIO, and Aito have demonstrated substantial demand.
Whether Xiaomi can successfully execute such an aggressive expansion—if indeed planned—while maintaining product quality and managing production constraints remains uncertain. The company has not officially confirmed plans beyond the new-generation SU7, leaving the scope and timing of its 2026 lineup subject to speculation.
