Xiaomi YU9 Extended-Range SUV Rendering Surfaces, Targeting Premium Market
Chinese automotive website Yiche.com recently published speculative renderings of Xiaomi's first extended-range electric SUV, the YU9, sparking industry attention as the tech giant expands its automotive portfolio into the premium full-size SUV segment.
The computer-generated images, which Yiche emphasized are conceptual renderings rather than official releases, depict a vehicle maintaining Xiaomi's design language established by its SU7 sedan and YU7 SUV models. The YU9 is positioned to compete directly with established players including Li Auto's L9 and Huawei-backed Seres' AITO M9.
Industry sources estimate the YU9 will exceed 5.2 meters in length with a wheelbase around 3.1 meters, meeting full-size SUV standards. The renderings show a closed grille front, narrow teardrop headlights, and wraparound taillights featuring Xiaomi's signature orange accent lighting. A near-vertical D-pillar design suggests accommodation for three-row seating, though some observers noted the vehicle's profile appears less imposing than typical full-size SUVs.
According to industry leaks, the YU9 will utilize Xiaomi's self-developed 1.5-liter turbocharged range extender with thermal efficiency exceeding 44.3%. The powertrain is expected to deliver 300 kilometers of pure electric range under China's CLTC testing cycle, with total range approaching 1,500 kilometers—surpassing competitors in the segment.
Market analysts project pricing between RMB 300,000-450,000 (US$41,000-62,000), placing the YU9 firmly in premium territory. This represents Xiaomi's continued push beyond consumer electronics into high-end automotive markets, following the SU7 sedan's launch earlier in 2025.
The YU9 would complete Xiaomi's initial automotive lineup, spanning sedans, mid-size SUVs, and full-size SUVs. Industry observers suggest Xiaomi's ecosystem integration capabilities and brand recognition could provide competitive advantages in China's intensifying new energy vehicle market.
Xiaomi has not officially confirmed the YU9's specifications or timeline. The company declined to comment on the renderings' authenticity or planned product details.
