XPeng Humanoid Robot's Realistic Walk Sparks "Human Inside" Speculation on Social Media

XPeng unveiled its latest humanoid robot IRON at the company's seventh Tech Day on November 5, drawing widespread attention for its remarkably lifelike movements that prompted some observers to question whether a person was controlling it from within.

During the on-stage demonstration, IRON walked with a natural gait that closely mimicked human body posture and stride, leading to playful speculation on social media. When one commenter joked that there was "100% a real person inside," XPeng CEO He Xiaopeng responded with a brief "Thank you for the recognition."

The robot employs a "skeleton-muscle-skin" architecture and features XPeng's proprietary bionic muscle drive system. Its hands possess 22 degrees of freedom in a 1:1 biomimetic design, enabling precise perception of gravity and material texture changes.

He said at the launch event that his team spent seven years developing technology to make IRON walk with lightness and grace. The robot integrates XPeng's self-developed physical world model system, combining VLT, VLA, and VLM capabilities to achieve real-time environmental perception, comprehension, and response.

IRON remains in the research phase, with hardware and software expected to reach mass production readiness around April 2026. The company aims to become China's first manufacturer of mass-produced advanced humanoid robots.

The incident highlights a paradox in advanced robotics: when technology becomes sufficiently sophisticated, it can trigger disbelief among observers. The reaction suggests XPeng's humanoid development has reached a level where its artificial movements appear indistinguishable from natural human motion.
