XPeng to Unveil New Humanoid Robot With Advanced AI System
XPeng Inc. will unveil a new generation of its "IRON" humanoid robot at the company's tech day next month, a move that signals the Chinese electric vehicle maker's deepening push into the robotics sector.
The announcement was made by Chairman and CEO He Xiaopeng, who stated that the robot will introduce a new AI system called VLT, or Vision-Language-Task/Thinking. The system is designed to process visual and language inputs to directly generate tasks and is expected to eventually evolve the capacity for thought.
The VLT system is part of XPeng’s broader effort to build a complex cognitive architecture by combining more than five operating systems. The ultimate goal is to transition its robots from being remote-controlled to fully autonomous.
This initiative is backed by a series of recent patent publications. Since July, XPeng has secured patents related to a "humanoid robot" appearance design, a "neck structure and humanoid robot," and a "posture generation method," according to public filings.
XPeng is also advancing its production capabilities, with plans for the "IRON" robot to enter mass industrial production in 2026. The company has already implemented practical training for the robot at its Guangzhou factory, indicating progress toward commercialization ahead of its formal entry into the competitive humanoid robot market in November 2025.
