Geely Launches Fifth-Generation Emgrand Sedan Starting at RMB 68,900

Geely Auto has commenced pre-sales of its fifth-generation Emgrand sedan, offering promotional pricing starting at RMB 68,900 (US$9,500), marking the latest update to one of China's best-selling domestic sedans.

The model carries official pre-sale prices ranging from RMB 77,900 to RMB 94,900, though limited-time discounts reduce the entry price to RMB 68,900-85,900. Since its initial launch in 2009, the Emgrand series has accumulated approximately 3.8 million units in sales, establishing itself as a leading nameplate among domestically-produced sedans in China.

The fifth-generation model features four configurations across two powertrain options. The 1.5-liter naturally aspirated engine paired with an 8-speed CVT transmission is available in Luxury and Premium trims, while the 1.5TD turbocharged variant with 7-speed dual-clutch transmission comes in Premium and Flagship versions.

Physical dimensions have expanded significantly, with the vehicle measuring 4,815mm in length, 1,885mm in width, and 1,480mm in height, featuring a 2,755mm wheelbase. Compared to its predecessor, the sedan has grown 177mm longer, 65mm wider, 20mm taller, with a 105mm wheelbase extension.

Design elements include a waterfall-style shield grille, narrow LED headlamps with three-segment daytime running lights, 18-inch wheels with 235/45R18 tires, and a full-width LED taillight. The interior offers three color schemes and features a 10.2-inch instrument cluster alongside a 14.6-inch floating center display, complemented by 50W wireless charging, panoramic sunroof, and 610-liter trunk capacity.

All variants come equipped with the Flyme Auto intelligent cockpit system incorporating AI capabilities and smartphone connectivity. Higher-spec models include Level 2 driver assistance features such as lane-keeping and automatic emergency braking.

The 1.5-liter engine produces 88kW maximum power and 150N·m torque, achieving 6.25L/100km fuel consumption under WLTC standards. The turbocharged 1.5TD variant delivers 133kW and 290N·m, accelerating from zero to 100km/h in 7.9 seconds.

The suspension configuration maintains a front MacPherson and rear torsion beam setup, optimized under Geely's BMA Evo architecture platform for enhanced ride comfort and handling balance. The starting price remains consistent with the outgoing generation despite the comprehensive upgrades.
