Huawei is set to equip its upcoming Pura 90 smartphone series with advanced multispectral camera technology across all models, according to details disclosed by Chinese tech media.
According to a report published by CNMO on January 8, 2026, the flagship lineup will feature significant camera upgrades, with the standard version incorporating a 50-megapixel variable aperture main sensor measuring approximately 1/1.28 inches and an upgraded 50-megapixel periscope telephoto lens. Higher-end variants are expected to include a one-inch primary camera sensor, representing a substantial enhancement in imaging capabilities.
The leak originated from digital blogger "Digital Chat Station," who indicated that a major Chinese smartphone manufacturer would introduce these camera specifications in an upcoming flagship series this year. Comments within the post strongly suggested the device in question is Huawei's Pura 90 lineup, scheduled for release in 2026.
The most notable feature appears in the ultra-premium model, which reportedly will pack a 200-megapixel large-format periscope telephoto lens alongside the 50-megapixel one-inch variable aperture main camera. The 200-megapixel periscope system is currently undergoing A/B testing between two sensor options: the OmniVision OV52A and the SmartSens SCC80XS, both utilizing approximately 1/1.28-inch sensors.
Industry observers note that the SmartSens SCC80XS represents a domestically produced high-end sensor utilizing advanced 22-nanometer stacked architecture. This technology theoretically offers superior power efficiency, reduced readout noise by up to 47 percent, and enhanced dynamic range reaching 85 decibels compared to alternative solutions.
The inclusion of multispectral cameras as standard equipment across the entire Pura 90 series marks a significant departure from typical smartphone imaging configurations, potentially enabling enhanced color accuracy and improved performance in challenging lighting conditions. This technology has traditionally been reserved for ultra-premium models or specialized imaging applications.
