Unitree Robotics Launches First App Store for Humanoids, Targeting Software Revenue

Unitree Robotics has launched UniStore, the world’s first task and action application store for humanoid robots. The platform allows users to download and install specific robotic behaviors, signaling a strategic shift for the industry from one-time hardware sales to continuous software-driven service models.

UniStore operates on a logic similar to smartphone application platforms. Developers can upload programs for specific tasks, such as folding clothes, which users can then download directly to their robots for immediate execution. This approach contrasts sharply with traditional industrial robotics, which requires on-site engineers to program and debug individual movements like grabbing, placing, or fastening components. By digitizing and packaging behavior models into ready-to-use applications, UniStore reduces these deployment costs to near zero.

The development of these robotic applications is being accelerated by artificial intelligence large models. Rather than writing thousands of lines of code over several months, developers can now use natural language descriptions to generate underlying robotic instructions, significantly lowering the barrier to entry. Leveraging its established user base in the consumer-grade humanoid robot market, Unitree aims to create a flywheel effect: an expanding hardware base attracts more developers, whose applications in turn drive further robot sales.

The launch addresses increasingly fragmented downstream demand. With factories requiring transport and assembly, households needing care and cleaning, and commercial spaces demanding guides and inspections, a single hardware manufacturer cannot develop all necessary capabilities internally. UniStore distributes this skill development to a global developer network.

For the market, the platform introduces a new monetization avenue. The shift opens the door to a subscription-based business model where hardware could potentially be sold at a lower margin, subsidized by recurring revenue from application software. This transition would effectively pivot Unitree from a pure hardware manufacturer to a service provider.

The platform's introduction draws direct parallels to the 2008 debut of smartphone app stores, an inflection point that ultimately created a US$6 trillion market. As competition in the humanoid robot sector evolves from basic mobility to task versatility, open developer ecosystems are emerging as the critical infrastructure for future industry growth.
