CATL Boosts Capital in Shanghai Smart Tech Unit by 13%
Contemporary Amperex Technology , Limited (CATL) has increased the registered capital of its Shanghai-based smart technology subsidiary by approximately 13%, signaling a deeper push into intelligent manufacturing and battery technology.
The subsidiary, CATL (Shanghai) Smart Technology, saw its capital rise from RMB 2.5 billion to approximately RMB 2.83 billion yuan (US$393 million), according to a company announcement on October 8.
The capital injection was facilitated by bringing in new shareholders, including private equity firms and state-backed industry funds such as the Shanghai Lingang Guotai Junan Science and Technology Frontier Industry Private Equity Fund and the Beijing Municipal Green Energy and Low-Carbon Industry Investment Fund. The subsidiary has also expanded its management team with the appointment of new key personnel.
CATL stated the move is aimed at expanding the subsidiary's business scale and strengthening its market competitiveness amid robust demand for electric vehicle batteries.
The new funds are earmarked to enhance research, development, and production capabilities in areas critical to the battery giant’s strategy, including smart manufacturing and advanced battery management systems (BMS). This initiative is part of CATL's broader effort to solidify its leading position in the global power battery market.
The parent company confirmed its commitment to supporting the subsidiary's continued innovation in the smart technology sector, reinforcing its long-term strategic focus on technological advancement to serve its global client base.
