Hisilicon’s CS5250 Sensor Debuts in Domestic Action Camera, Signaling Shift in High-End Imaging Supply

Chinese action camera maker Jiku Vision has partnered with Shanghai Hisilicon, a wholly Huawei-owned chip unit, to launch an action camera platform built around Hisilicon’s first in-house large-format CMOS image sensor, marking a rare domestic entry into a segment long dominated by overseas suppliers.

The first commercial device using the sensor is the Xiaotu S7Pro MAX, which debuts Hisilicon’s 1/1.3-inch CS5250 sensor. The 50-megapixel component uses Huawei’s RYYB color filter array, which the companies say lifts light intake by 40%, and supports DCG dual conversion gain to improve imaging in low light, backlight and high dynamic range scenes. The camera also supports high-speed 4K recording.

The platform pairs the CS5250 with the Hi3519DV500 main control chip in a dual-chip setup. The processor delivers 2.5 TOPS of AI computing power, enabling features such as color restoration and intelligent noise reduction, and includes tuning aimed at addressing color-shift issues associated with RYYB filters.

Jiku Vision also positions the S7Pro MAX as a performance upgrade for high-motion use cases, adding its fifth-generation stabilization system with multi-dimensional stabilization and horizon leveling for fast-moving scenarios.

While pricing for the new flagship has not been disclosed, the company referenced an existing Xiaotu S7Pro model using a Sony sensor priced at RMB 788 (US$110). The comparison underscores the likely price and positioning gap between mainstream products that rely on imported imaging sensors and the new domestic solution targeting higher-end performance.

Beyond action cameras, Hisilicon’s self-developed sensor is expected to be adapted for drones and smartphones, with Huawei planning to use it across multiple upcoming devices, according to the material. For investors tracking China’s consumer electronics supply chain, the launch highlights a push toward domestically controlled imaging components—an area where sensor capability and scale can directly influence product differentiation and bill-of-materials leverage.
