OPPO Find X9 Ultra Sets April Launch with 10x Optical Zoom and Snapdragon 8 Gen 5

OPPO Electronics Corp. has confirmed an April debut for its premium flagship, the Find X9 Ultra, signaling an aggressive push to dominate the high-end mobile imaging market in the second quarter of 2026. The device, marketed under the slogan "Hasselblad in your pocket," attempts to bridge the gap between smartphones and professional cameras by integrating physical shutter controls and breaking industry standards with native 10x optical zoom.

The announcement follows the successful release of the standard Find X9 series in October 2025. While the initial models stabilized OPPO’s market share in the premium segment, the "Ultra" variant is positioned to compete directly against top-tier offerings from Samsung and Xiaomi by leveraging proprietary optical breakthroughs and a continued partnership with Swedish camera maker Hasselblad.

Analysts view the release as a strategic move to capitalize on the growing consumer demand for "computational photography plus hardware," moving beyond mere megapixel counts to offer tangible, professional-grade optical capabilities.

Hardware Evolution Mirrors Professional Cameras

The Find X9 Ultra’s most distinct feature is its shift toward tactile utility. Promotional materials reveal a straight-edge metal frame housing a dedicated, orange-accented physical shutter button on the side. This design choice explicitly mimics the heritage of Hasselblad’s medium-format cameras, targeting photography enthusiasts who prioritize ergonomics over slim form factors.

The imaging system represents a significant leap in optical density. The device houses a "Penta-Camera" (five-lens) setup, headlined by a 200-megapixel large-sensor main unit. However, the critical differentiator lies in the telephoto architecture. The system includes:

  • Dual Periscope Strategy: A 200MP periscope lens for mid-range zoom and a 50MP periscope for super-telephoto tasks.
  • Native 10x Optical Zoom: Breaking the previous hardware limit of 6x optical zoom found in most competitors, allowing for lossless magnification at extreme distances without relying solely on AI upscaling.
  • Ultrawide & Color Specifics: A 50MP ultra-wide sensor and a dedicated "Danxia" True Color lens designed to calibrate color science at a hardware level.

Silicon and Power Density Scale Up

Under the hood, the Find X9 Ultra is powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 mobile platform. This aligns with the 2026 flagship cycle, utilizing the chipset’s advanced ISP (Image Signal Processor) to handle the massive data throughput required by dual 200MP sensors. The performance core is supported by LPDDR5X RAM and UFS 4.1 storage, ensuring low-latency data writing for high-resolution burst photography.

To sustain the power demands of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 and the high-brightness display, OPPO has integrated a dual-cell battery architecture. The total typical capacity is rated at 6,850mAh, which the company is expected to market as 7,000mAh. This represents a substantial increase in energy density compared to the 2025 industry average of 5,500mAh for flagships.

Display Technology and Release Timeline

The visual interface features a 2K resolution flat panel with LTPO technology, allowing for a variable refresh rate of 1-120Hz. The screen achieves a global maximum brightness of 1,800 nits, with manual adjustments peaking at 800 nits. OPPO has also emphasized eye-protection protocols, utilizing high-frequency 2160Hz PWM dimming at low brightness levels to reduce strobe fatigue.

The Find X9 Ultra is scheduled for an official unveiling in April, where pricing and global availability details will be finalized.
