WeRide Completes Hong Kong Listing, Securing Dual-Primary Status in US and Asian Markets
Chinese autonomous driving company WeRide completed its Hong Kong Stock Exchange listing today, pricing its shares at HK$27.1 and cementing its status as the first Robotaxi operator to achieve dual-primary listings in both the US and Hong Kong markets.
The Guangzhou-based company's Hong Kong debut comes less than two weeks after its October 25 Nasdaq listing, marking one of China's largest US IPOs this year. Founder and CEO Tony Han signed a voluntary lock-up agreement pledging not to sell any shares for three years from October 28, signaling management's confidence in long-term growth prospects.
The dual listing positions WeRide to tap deeper pools of international capital as it accelerates global expansion. Strategic investors including ride-hailing giants Uber Technologies and Grab Holdings, as well as automotive supplier Bosch, participated in the Hong Kong IPO alongside Asian and Middle Eastern sovereign wealth funds including Temasek Holdings.
WeRide's move reflects a broader trend of Chinese technology companies seeking international growth platforms amid intensifying competition in autonomous driving, where global market size is projected to surge from 1 billion in 2024 to 1.464 trillion by 2030.
Dual-Market Strategy Broadens Investor Base
The Hong Kong listing expands WeRide's financing channels beyond its US market presence. The company holds cash and cash equivalents of RMB 3.836 billion as of June 2025, plus term deposits and financial assets totaling RMB 5.823 billion.
Revenue reached RMB 199.6 million in the six months ended June 30, 2025, up 32.8% from RMB 882 million, demonstrating improving unit economics.
The company's strategic investor roster now spans global mobility platforms and automotive supply chain leaders. WeRide has forged partnerships with Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi Alliance, Nvidia, Yutong Group, and GAC Group, among others, raising over $1.1 billion before its US listing.
Technology Platform Drives Multi-Product Portfolio
WeRide's WeRide One autonomous driving platform supports five product lines spanning Robotaxis, autonomous minibuses, delivery vehicles, street sweepers, and advanced driver-assistance systems. The modular architecture covers L2+ to L4 autonomous capabilities across smart mobility, freight, and sanitation applications.
Research and development spending totaled RMB 3.553 billion from 2022 through the first half of 2025, including RMB 645 million in the latest six-month period. This investment has yielded 15 L4-capable vehicle models under the WeRide One platform, with nine variants dedicated to Robotaxi operations.
The company deployed its proprietary WeRide GENESIS simulation engine, an integrated closed-loop system generating intelligent scenarios and high-fidelity content for data augmentation, model validation, and training. This accelerates development cycles and enhances model robustness across deployment scenarios.
WeRide's Robotaxi operations generated RMB 45.9 million in second-quarter 2025 revenue, surging 836.7% year-over-year and setting a quarterly record since inception. Robotaxi revenue share jumped to 31.1% in the first half of 2025 from 8.9% in the prior-year period.
Safety Record Underpins Commercial Viability
The company's Robotaxi fleet completed over 2,200 days of public road operations, accumulating more than 55 million kilometers of autonomous driving mileage without regulatory penalties for autonomous system failures.
In Beijing, WeRide operates fully driverless Robotaxis in the Yizhuang Economic and Technological Development Zone's dense urban traffic areas, extending service coverage to Beijing South Railway Station and Beijing Daxing International Airport. The company secured nighttime Robotaxi testing qualifications in the capital.
In Guangzhou, WeRide launched eight demonstration routes in the city center and achieved 24-hour fully driverless commercial operations in Huangpu District. According to CIC Consulting, WeRide ranked second globally in 2024 by revenue from L4 and higher autonomous driving on city roads, capturing 21.8% market share.
Gross profit rose 40.6% to RMB 35.7 million in the second quarter, yielding a 28.1% gross margin. The improving profitability trajectory suggests WeRide's technology platform is translating research investments into commercial returns.
Global Expansion Targets High-Value Markets
WeRide holds autonomous driving licenses in seven countries: China, the US, Singapore, France, Saudi Arabia, the UAE, and Belgium. The company operates a fleet exceeding 1,500 autonomous vehicles, including over 700 Robotaxis, deployed across 30-plus cities in 11 countries.
In the Middle East, WeRide partners with Uber to operate one of the region's largest Robotaxi fleets outside China and the US. The company became the first to launch public commercial Robotaxi service in the region, beginning operations in Abu Dhabi in November 2021.
Abu Dhabi ride fares run approximately four times higher than in Chinese tier-one cities, according to CIC data, highlighting the market's commercial value. A single WeRide Robotaxi completed up to 18 passenger trips per 12-hour shift in October 2025.
In Singapore, WeRide secured fully driverless operation permits for autonomous minibuses and launched the country's first consumer-facing autonomous mobility service with Grab. The Ai.R project represents large-scale commercial deployment of Robotaxis and Robobuses.
CIC research indicates WeRide maintains at least an 18-month lead over competitors in core Middle Eastern and Singaporean markets. In France, Switzerland, and Belgium, WeRide is the only autonomous driving company achieving commercial L4 fleet deployment.
Autonomous Driving Market Poised for Explosive Growth
The global L4 and higher autonomous driving market is projected to expand from 1 billion in 2024 to 1.464 trillion by 2030, representing a 238% compound annual growth rate, according to CIC Consulting. China, Asia-Pacific, US, and European markets are each forecast to maintain over 200% growth rates through 2030.
The Robotaxi segment specifically is expected to grow from 100 million in 2024 to 587 billion by 2030, a 367% CAGR, then reach $2.992 trillion by 2035. Markets including the Middle East and Singapore face acute labor shortages and aging populations, creating ideal conditions for autonomous mobility services.
WeRide expanded European operations with Renault Group, deploying the continent's first public-road autonomous minibus with fully driverless commercial service in France. In Switzerland, Robotaxis launched in the Furtal region while Robobuses prepare for driverless operations at Zurich Airport.
The company's environmental services division deployed autonomous street sweepers and cleaning vehicles in Singapore in 2024, marking the city-state's first commercially operating autonomous sanitation project. WeRide also partnered with Uber to launch Robotaxi service in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, integrating autonomous vehicles into the Uber app for the first time in the kingdom.
