Xiaomi Unveils Flagship 17 Series With New Snapdragon Chip and Secondary Rear Displays
Xiaomi on September 25 launched its new flagship smartphone lineup, the Xiaomi 17 series, featuring three models aimed at the premium market: the Xiaomi 17, Xiaomi 17 Pro, and Xiaomi 17 Pro Max. The new devices are distinguished by a new high-performance processor and innovative display technologies.
The entire series marks the global debut of the 5th Gen Snapdragon 8 Supreme Edition processor. Manufactured using a 3nm process, the chipset features a CPU with a top clock speed of 4.6GHz and an upgraded GPU that Xiaomi claims reduces power consumption by 30%.
The standard Xiaomi 17 is positioned as a compact flagship with a 6.3-inch display. The device is powered by a 7,000mAh battery, a significant capacity for its form factor. It is equipped with a Leica triple-camera system, including a 50-megapixel main sensor. The model starts at RMB 4,499 yuan (US$620).
The Xiaomi 17 Pro and Pro Max introduce an innovative secondary display on the rear of the device. This smaller screen can function as a viewfinder for high-resolution selfies using the main camera, display notifications, or show custom wallpapers. The Pro model features a 6.3-inch screen and a 6,300mAh battery, while the top-tier Pro Max comes with a larger 6.9-inch display and a 7,500mAh battery.
Both Pro models feature an upgraded "Leica Optical Master" imaging system, which includes a new Light Hunter 950L sensor with LOFIC technology to enhance dynamic range in challenging lighting conditions. The Pro Max also includes a 5X periscope telephoto lens. The entire lineup supports 100W wired and 50W wireless charging. Additionally, the phones are equipped with Ultra-Wideband (UWB) technology, enabling precise spatial awareness for features like automatic car unlocking.
The Xiaomi 17 Pro is priced from RMB 4,999, and the Xiaomi 17 Pro Max starts at RMB 5,999. Pre-orders for all models are now open, with official sales scheduled to begin on September 27.
