Kia Targets 13 New All-Electric Models by 2030 as Demand Softens
Kia said it plans to launch 13 new battery-electric vehicles globally by 2030, sharpening its push into zero-emission cars as the industry faces a broad slowdown in demand.
Chief Executive Officer Song Ho-sung laid out the target at the company’s annual shareholders meeting, framing it as a way to broaden the lineup and improve competitiveness across key segments. “We will introduce a total of 13 EV models by 2030 to meet diverse customer needs and strengthen our advantages in the EV space,” Song told shareholders.
Kia said South Korea currently serves as its main global production hub for EVs, but the company aims to expand EV output overseas to better match local demand in core regions including Europe, China and North America. The company also linked overseas production expansion to the need to respond to prior US import tariff policy, alongside the sector’s shift toward full electrification.
To support its EV growth goals, Kia said it will accelerate the buildout of charging infrastructure in major global markets.
A key pillar of the strategy is the global rollout of its PBV (Platform Beyond Vehicle) modular electric platform, which Kia said is designed to flex across multiple use cases including passenger transport, logistics and leisure vehicles. The company’s first PBV model, the PV5 multipurpose van, was launched last year. Kia plans to introduce the larger PV7 in 2027 and the PV9 in 2029, while developing additional customized PBV variants.
Kia also unveiled the EV2, a compact electric small SUV designed, developed and produced in Europe. The model signals the company’s entry into one of Europe’s highest-volume segments. Kia said the EV2 will offer two battery options, use a 400-volt electrical architecture, and include driver-assistance technology typically found on higher-end models. The vehicle is positioned as a primary family car rather than a secondary runabout.
For investors, the roadmap highlights Kia’s effort to balance near-term market softness with longer-term electrification commitments, using broader model cadence, localized production and charging availability to underpin volume ambitions through 2030.
